Introducing GunStore.io:
FFL-First Store Management

6 min read Waylon Martinez

Today, GunStore.io enters private beta. After years of building — and years before that of running a gun store with the same broken tools every FFL complains about — we're finally letting the first group of dealers in.

This isn't a soft launch announcement dressed up in marketing copy. It's a direct conversation with the FFLs who have been waiting, asking, and frankly deserve to know exactly what they're getting. So here's the honest version.

The problem we set out to solve

The firearms retail industry is 20 years behind every other vertical. Sixty thousand active FFLs in this country, and the overwhelming majority are still running their businesses on paper bound books, spreadsheets, and their personal cell phone. The "solutions" that do exist are generic retail POS systems with a compliance checkbox bolted on — built by people who've never filed a 4473, never called an ATF inspector, and have never had to explain to a customer why their background check is taking three days.

I became an FFL to understand the problem from the inside. Turns out, the inside is worse than I thought.

Every feature in GunStore.io exists because I hit that frustration myself — and refused to accept "that's just how it is."

What GunStore.io actually does

GunStore.io is not a point-of-sale system. It's the operating system for a gun store's supply chain — from the moment a customer asks about a firearm to the moment it transfers out of your bound book and into their hands.

Compliance is architecture, not a feature

The most important thing to understand about how we built this: compliance isn't a layer we added on top. It's baked into every workflow.

There are seven compliance gates between a firearm in your inventory and a shipping label on a box. The system knows handguns require overnight air. It validates every destination FFL against 80,000+ ATF records before generating a packing slip. FFL expired? The workflow stops — no override, no admin bypass. The architecture won't let you accidentally ship wrong.

That's not a checkbox. That's engineering.

Pricing: simple, honest, three tiers

We spent a lot of time on pricing. The goal was to price fairly for the FFL who is just starting out, the store doing consistent special orders, and the high-volume operation that needs more signing capacity. Here's where we landed:

Launch pricing — all plans include a 14-day free trial

Transfer
$15 /mo

Digital bound book, distributor catalog search. For home-based FFLs and transfer-only shops. No document signing.

Builder
$25 /mo

Everything in Transfer + order management, invoicing, and PDF signing (5–10 docs/mo included). Most popular.

Builder+
$50 /mo

Everything in Builder with a higher monthly signing quota and cheaper per-doc overage rate. For high-volume stores.

No per-transaction fees. No bound book entry caps. No per-user charges. The software should work harder as your business grows — not charge you more for every record you keep.

Who we're letting in first

Private beta is a small group of hand-selected FFLs. We're prioritizing stores that are currently running on paper or spreadsheets — the people who will feel the difference most immediately — along with dealers who've been waiting since we first started talking about this publicly.

If you're in the beta group, you've already heard from us. If you're not but want to be: request access below. We're onboarding in batches over the next two weeks before opening to the public on May 4.

What's next

Private beta runs through May 4, at which point we open public signups. General availability — full production, tiered billing, no more free rides — is July 4, 2026. Independence Day felt like the right launch date for a product built around independence from paper.

Between now and then, every piece of feedback from beta users goes directly into the build. We ship fast. If something is broken, we fix it. If something is missing, we discuss it. That's the deal.

Thanks for waiting. Let's get your store off paper.
